2024-2025 Parent U Events: Equipping Families for Key School Transitions and Success

 

Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) is excited to announce its slate of Parent U events for the 2024-2025 school year.

Designed to empower families during pivotal transition grades, these Zoom-based workshops will offer invaluable insights into supporting your child’s education and navigating the educational system.

Parent U 2024-2025 Schedule     

  • Thursday, September 12 | Parent U High School Essentials: A Family Roadmap for Student Success 
    Time: 6:00 PM, Target Audience: 7th-9th Grade
    • This session will guide families through the essential aspects of supporting students as they transition into high school, focusing on strategies for academic success and personal development.
  • Tuesday, September 24 | Parent U Paying for College: FAFSA/TASFA Orientation
    Time: 6:00 PM, Target Audience: 12th Grade
    • Learn about financial aid opportunities and the application processes for FAFSA and TASFA. This workshop aims to explain the funding process and help families plan for college expenses.
  • Tuesday, October 29 | Parent U Four Year Planning and Advanced Academics
    Time: 6:00 PM, Target Audience: 8th Grade
    • Explore strategies for planning high school coursework and advanced academic opportunities, setting your child up for long-term success in their educational journey.
  • Tuesday, November 12 | Parent U Building Bridges to Middle School 
    Time: 6:00 PM, Target Audience: 5th Grade
    • This workshop focuses on easing the transition from elementary to middle school, offering tips on academic and social adjustments for both parents and students.
  • Thursday, January 16 | Parent U Understanding Math Pathways
    Time: 6:00 PM, Target Audience: 5th Grade
    • Gain insights into the math curriculum and pathways available as your child moves into middle school, ensuring a solid foundation for future success in mathematics
  • Wednesday, February 5 | Parent U Earning College Credit in High School (Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment)
    ​​​​​​​Time: 6:00 PM, Target Audience: 9th and 10th Grade
    • Discover how dual credit and dual enrollment programs work, and how they can provide your child with valuable college credits while still in high school.
  • Thursday, February 20 | Parent U Safeguarding Our Youth: A Parent's Guide to Vaping and Fentanyl Awareness
    ​​​​​​​Time: 6:00 PM, Target Audience: All Grades
    • This important session will provide information on recognizing and addressing issues related to vaping and fentanyl, equipping parents with the knowledge to protect their children.
  • Tuesday, April 29 | Parent U 504/Special Education Accommodations in College
    ​​​​​​​Time: 6:00 PM, Target Audience: 11th and 12th Grade
    • Learn about the transition from high school to college for students with 504 plans or special education needs, and how to navigate the accommodations available at the postsecondary level.

Sessions are designed to provide practical advice and support, ensuring that families are well-equipped to assist their children and ensure their academic success!
