Enrichment Programs

|
5th Grade Party
|
To celebrate the passage of our
fifth-graders to middle school, a pool party follows of Fifth Grade
Celebration Ceremony on the last day of school for the year. Students will be bringing home
detailed information in May!

Banking
|
Students have the opportunity to
participate in Banking Day every week. Interested
students open a bank account and make weekly deposits. The bank provides students with
statements of their accounts the following Friday. Help your child begin
developing good financial management skills by participating in this
weekly program!
|
|
Cultural Arts
|
Various performing arts programs from the
city of Houston educate and enrich our students’ aesthetic development
with everything from opera to international folk performances supplementing
our school’s fine arts program.
|

Extreme
Science
|
Volunteers assist with hands-on science
experiments for fourth and fifth graders. Labs are held every two
weeks. Training is provided.
|
|
International Week
|
Students participate in interactive
presentations on the cultures, folklore, and languages of a variety of
different countries around the world.
|
|
Mentoring
|
Tutors work on basic skills in reading,
writing and math with their student. This program is open to third,
fourth and fifth graders selected by the principal. It is a 30-45
minute commitment per week per student. Tutors may have more than one
student.

|
Red Ribbon Week
|
Students participate in tobacco, alcohol,
and drug awareness and resistance educational activities throughout the
last week of October.
|
|
Reflections
|
The Reflections Contest is a cultural arts
program sponsored by the National P.T.A. Based on a given theme each
year, it allows children from Pre-K through high school to express
themselves in one or more of the four program categories: literature,
visual arts, photography, and music.

Skate
Day
|
Several times a year, Nottingham students
are invited to get together for an afternoon of fun at the Dairy
Ashford Roller Rink! The rink is reserved for Nottingham students ONLY
and children from all grade levels meet there for inline and regular
skating with all their friends.

Splash Day
|
Our annual family evening of food and water
fun is held in the late spring of each year. Watch for flyers with details and join us at the pool
for a great dinner.

Fundraisers

|
Back to School Dinner
|
The first General PTA meeting of the school
year starts with a Back-to-School Dinner sponsored by a local
restaurant. The food is always
delicious and the dinner is a great way to kick off the new year!

|
Birthday Marquee (South Side)
|
Wish your child a Happy Birthday! Have your child’s name and
birthday listed on the school marquee in front of the school on the big
day. This fundraiser goes
on year around, but sign up early to reserve your slot.

Scholastic Book Fair
|
This is an excellent opportunity for students and parents
to shop for great books at low prices right in our school library. Grandparent's Day is scheduled during
Book Fair Week so that books may be purchased for that special little
one!

|
Coupon Books
|
Sally Foster Entertainment Books go home
with students during the first few weeks of school. Loaded with coupons for local
stores, restaurants, and gaming places, these books are invaluable for
the busy family.

Directory
|
The school directory is more of a school
service than a fundraiser.
A nominal fee is charged to cover printing expenses but all data
collection and preparation is handled on a volunteer basis.

Gift Wrap
|
Sally Foster Gift Wrap sales are a big hit with
parents, grandparents and children every year. Catalogues are filled
with shiny paper, yummy treats and a variety of gifts to cover everyone
on your list!

Running for the Arts
|
An annual fun run is held every year to
support the fine arts programs in place in SBISD. A great chance to exercise with
your children and make a difference in their education!

T-Shirts
|
Nottingham t-shirts
sport a new look every year.
Children are encouraged to wear their shirts every Friday to
show their school spirit!

Yearbook
Publication
|
Nottingham's Yearbooks are quality
publications depicting the special events occurring during the school
year! Because of their
high quality, all interested parents are invited to assist in its
creation.

|
Limited numbers of copies are printed and
books must be pre-ordered before Dec. 10th. After this date, the few
additional copies will be on a first come-first served basis. A very popular item, yearbook
sales and distribution can always use additional woman/man-power!

Beautification
|
Help keep our campus beautiful! The Beautification team weeds the
gardens, trims the plants, adds new ones and works with the school’s
maintenance team to keep the landscape "lookin’ good for our
neighborhood!"

Information
|
The liaison compiles/sends e-newsletters to
a database of e-mail addresses.

Home Area Parents
|
Room Moms (and Dads) are responsible for
coordinating two classroom parties (Winter Holiday and Valentine's
Day), teacher appreciation goodies, and a few other items during the
school year. Each grade level also has a coordinator.

Shield
|
Our P.T.A. newsletter, the Nottingham
Shield, is published once a month and sent home in backpacks with detailed information on upcoming
PTA-sponsored events and programs.

VIPS
|
An annual coffee is held the first day of
school for all parents who are interested in volunteering at our
school. The required
Volunteer Registration Forms must be completed online at the SBISD home
page by all interested parents and once clearance is received, the
prospective volunteer will be contacted by phone and letter to begin
their important volunteer work at our school. Volunteers are treated to an informal informational meeting
about all the different volunteer opportunities available at
Nottingham.

Volunteer Coordinator
|
The Volunteer Coordinator works closely
with the Assistant Principal in meeting district requirements for the
Parent Volunteer Program.
This coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all interested
parents have a cleared volunteer registration form on file with the
school’s assistant principal and notifying parents as to when they may
begin work on campus.
