The instructional day at Nottingham
Elementary begins promptly at 8:05
each morning. When students arrive at school, they go directly to the
cafeteria where they sit together at grade-level tables. Students are
dismissed from the cafeteria beginning at 7:50 to enter their classrooms in time to
hear morning announcements at 8:00.
Students are not allowed in the instructional area prior to 8:00.
Parents who are dropping off their
child must do so on the SOUTH side of our campus in Parent
Drive. For the safety of all
students, we ask that you enter through the extreme south entrance to
this parking lot and pull up to the covered breezeway before you allow
your child to exit from the car. PLEASE NOTE: The north side parking
lot is for bus drop-off and staff parking ONLY.
Breakfast
Our cafeteria begins serving breakfast each morning at 7:30
to any student interested. The cost is 75 cents per child (Breakfast
Menu). Students are expected to arrive at school to allow enough
time to complete their breakfast and be ready for morning dismissal at 7:50.
Any student may prepay each month for the following month. Students
eating breakfast will be seated at the first two rows of tables until
finished. At that time, the student will move to the assigned grade-level
table to await dismissal into the instructional area.
After School
Procedures
School
is dismissed at 3:00.
Parents who are waiting inside the building due to wet weather for
students to be dismissed are asked NOT to enter the instructional area,
but to wait outside the double doors leading into the classroom areas
until children exit. Older siblings must have a prearranged meeting spot
outside the instructional area if they are to walk home with a younger
brother or sister. Students are not allowed to re-enter the building
after 3:05.
When visiting the school during
regular school hours, all visitors must sign in with the
front office and pick up a visitor's badge. This policy is strictly enforced
for the safety of our students and any adult without a badge will be
redirected to the office.
Parents who are picking up their
child by car will need to use the Parent
Drive parking lot on the south
side of the campus where bicycle racks are also located. Parents should
NEVER drop off or pick a child up directly in front of the school. This
creates a major hazard when children are then forced to cross the street
against oncoming traffic and vehicles block already congested streets.
Students riding buses home are
escorted out of the building by staff members at the completion of each
day. Bus Drive is on the north side of the building and is not to be
used for parent pick up. Unless a student has given written notice
from the parent to the teacher (with the parent's signature) stating a
change in the normal procedure in getting home, the student will be
required to ride the bus as usual. We ask that all parents stress
appropriate bus behavior with their children. This is an important safety
issue and, while the bus driver will alert the school principal as to any
major infractions, it is the responsibility of all students to remain
seated with their heads and arms inside the vehicle at all times.
Continued difficulty in complying with bus rules may result in the
child's suspension from riding the bus.
After School Care
Several options are available for after school care. Parent may contact area day cares
listed below or obtain information from the Champions After School
Program that is currently available on the Nottingham
campus every afternoon immediately after school! It's safe, organized,
convenient and fun, with activities that are physically and mentally
challenging. The Champions staff is experienced and follows an
established curriculum developed for elementary school children.
Activities provided through this program include:
- Outdoor games
- Theatrical fun
- Science exploration
- Brain-teasers
- Reading & Relaxation
- Arts and Crafts, and
- a head start on homework!
If you are interested in specific information, please contact our
school office to request a brochure. You are also welcome to come by any
afternoon to "tour" the program held in our school cafeteria.
In addition, several area childcare centers provide both before and
after school care and most provide drop-off and pick-up van services. Please
